John Hinson, M.D.

I attended Florida State University for my undergraduate education and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology. I then obtained my medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. While at the Medical College I maintained the scholarship for being the top ranked student in my class and served as president of our Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. I completed a general surgery internship followed by an orthopaedic surgery residency at the Medical College of Georgia. After completion of my residency program I completed a fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery at the St. Francis Shoulder Institute in Columbus, Georgia. Under the mentorship of Dr. George McCluskey I gained valuable knowledge and experience in advanced techniques of shoulder and elbow surgery including arthroscopy, arthroplasty, and the care of traumatic conditions.
I began my career on the faculty of the orthopaedic department of the Medical College of Georgia. I worked to further develop my clinical and surgical skills while taking the time to help in the education of both medical students and resident surgeons.
Work there included research in both basic and clinical science as well as presentations at regional and national meetings. I contributed book chapters and published work in international journals on topics including shoulder exams, shoulder fractures, and shoulder replacements. During this time I was fortunate to serve in the leadership role of president of the Georgia Shoulder and Elbow Society. After five years on faculty, I left to accept a position at the Palm Beach Orthopaedic Institute. I have gone on to become a partner and have spent the past 10 years practicing in Palm Beach County.
I have dedicated my career to the advanced care of shoulder and elbow conditions. My goal is to build a relationship with my patient so I can understand their medical and life needs to provide them with the best care possible. The goal in every patient is to deliver relief with conservative care if appropriate. When surgery is the best treatment option for a patient, I make every effort to help them understand what procedure we are planning and communicate the steps in their care from the initial visit through their postsurgical recovery.
I have a specific interest in caring for rotator cuff conditions. I make every effort to educate my patients on this condition and explain nonsurgical and surgical options to them. We will discuss the use of orthobiologics treatment with patients and use them when appropriate. I specialize in surgical treatments for rotator cuff conditions including complex and revision surgery. My biggest goal is to provide skilled surgical care for my patients. I also make it a priority to take the time to guide them through their recovery to maximize the results from these procedures.
My further surgical interests include treatment of shoulder and elbow fractures, management of shoulder instability with a focus on arthroscopic techniques, treatment of overuse elbow injuries including ligament and tendon injuries, and shoulder replacement including reverse total shoulder replacement.
